God's word of the day
WHAT DO YOU DO?
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. – Luke 9:24
You are sleeping soundly in your bed one night when you hear a loud
explosion outside followed by gunshots and screams. An army of militants
has just broken into your city, searching for innocent civilians, like
you and your family. Soon, you discover that they have broken into your
house and have captured your mother, father and siblings. You are next.
You know you have no chance to escape.
This may sound far-fetched, but this has been true for hundreds of
people living in Northeastern Syria. As I write this, CNN reports that
the ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) has abducted at least 90
Assyrians, including hundreds more of Christians. They were sent an
ultimatum that read: “Convert to Islam, pay a fine, or face ‘death by
sword.’”
Today, Jesus tells us, “Whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.”
Some are blessed with this call of martyrdom. They are not afraid to
suffer and perish for the faith. But for us who are not called to that
extreme suffering, do we likewise die to ourselves each day with the
small sacrifices we are called to make?

Gods word of the day
GO THE EXTRA MILE!
If anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles. – Matthew 5:41
In my experience, there are five types of poverty mentality. The
Trapped Belief says, “I was born poor and will remain poor for the rest
of my life.”
The Juan Tamad Belief, says, “No amount of effort can make me rich, so I will just be lazy for the rest of my life.”
The Wish-Ko-Lang Belief says, “My only chance to become rich is to win the lotto or Who Wants to Be a Millionaire show.”
The Rich-Is-Evil Belief says, “I hate the rich and don’t want to become rich. The rich demean and oppress the poor.”
Finally, the Con Belief says, “Because the rich are evil, let’s
cheat and steal from them so they’ll be as miserable as us.”
But the Gospel teaches there’s a sure-fire way to become affluent.
And that’s to go the extra mile! We don’t just give what we can. We give
our very best and never stop improving, never stop growing, never stop
giving. This is what Anglican theologian John Wesley meant when he said,
“Work… earn… save… give as much as you can.”
Real wealth is enriching your life so that you can enrich others.
Go the extra mile, my friend, and all these things shall be added unto
you

SMALL RULE, BIG
RULE
Whoever
breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do
so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. – Matthew 5:19
“Papa, the pedestrian crossing is over there,” my then little girl
reminded me as I crossed the street diagonally. Actually, the pedestrian
lane was just a few meters away. I may not have said it, but the act of
pulling her to cross diagonally was tantamount to telling her that it
was OK to ignore pedestrian lanes. It was like teaching by modeling.
It seems that a little disobedience to the small rule is no big deal.
But the verse above is clear: “Whoever breaks one of the least of these
commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the
Kingdom of heaven.”
Romans 13:1-2 says, “Let every person be subordinate to the higher
authorities, for there is no authority except from God…Therefore,
whoever resists authority opposes what God has appointed.”
When we don’t follow this little rule, we are actually disobeying a
bigger, more serious rule that has “spiritual” implications.

10 Reasons Why You Should Save Money
1.
Become Financially Independent
The measuring stick for being rich
is different depending on who you talk to. However, the one thing that the
notion of “being rich or wealthy” means to most people is having financial
independence and savings to depend on. Calling your own shots, financially
speaking, means having the freedom to make choices in your life separate from
earning a pay check.
This may mean being able to take a
vacation whenever you want to, leaving work and going back to school to switch
careers, starting your own business or investing in someone else’s start-up,
helping family members, taking on a lesser paying job that is more personally
satisfying than financially beneficial, or a big one these days - retiring when
you want to rather than working because you have to.
Financial independence isn’t the
same as being rich, but not having to depend on receiving a certain pay check
can sure make you feel rich beyond your wildest dreams! Having savings that you
can rely on is what it takes to become “rich,” no matter how you define it.
To learn more about financial
independence, check out Jonathan Chevreau’s popular (and easy to
read) novel, Findependence Day.
If you normally charge all of your
purchases on your credit card, and then you don’t pay off your credit cards in
full every month, because of added interest charges you are probably
paying at least 50% more for everything you buy. If you are relying on your
credit cards to afford your lifestyle, break your expensive credit habit by
saving up for your purchases ahead of time.
With savings, you can buy things
when they are on sale and take the time to make better spending choices. People
with savings can also stockpile groceries when they are on sale (items that are
non perishable or which can be frozen). One author suggests people who do this
can possibly skip one grocery shop a month and save 24% a year on their grocery
bill.
3.
Buy a Home
The bank won’t lend you money to buy
a house unless you have a down payment, and you are not allowed to borrow a
down payment. You must have this money saved up or have someone give it to
you—and not lend it to you. Your down payment needs to be at least 5% of the
purchase price of the house, and then the bank will consider lending you the
other 95%. There are all sorts of other costs and fees that you need to pay
when you buy a home, so you will need an additional 5% just for those costs.
Savings is what will open the door to owing a home.
4.
Buy a Car
When you want or need to buy a new
car, you will need to have a down payment in order to get a car loan at a
reasonable interest rate. You could of course “borrow” the money from your
credit card, but at 20+%, how is that getting you ahead? Zero percent financing
is reserved for great customers, so a car loan is bound to cost you
something—and it could be a lot. The best thing you can do is save up as large
a down payment as you can afford, and then consider your options. Maybe buying
a quality used car rather than a new one will be what it takes to get you the
vehicle you want.
If you ever want to get out of debt,
you have to have some money saved. Sounds ironic, doesn't it? However, the
credit cards are never going to get paid off if you have to keep using them for
every “emergency” that comes along. Even if you are an awesome planner, stats
show that half of us experience at least one totally unexpected expense each
year (and half of those will be unexpected car trouble).
So before you start aggressively
paying off your credit cards, you should save up P500 to P1,000 as a reserve
fund. Then when unexpected things come up, you can pay them out of your reserve
fund rather than put them on your credit cards. Maintaining a “reserve fund”
will also help you to notice if your spending is getting out of hand.
6.
Annual Expenses
If you want to have a good,
relatively stress-free financial life, you need to save for annual
expenses. These may include money for gifts, vacations, vehicle maintenance,
minor home repairs, fixing appliances, property taxes and possibly income tax. It
can be tempting to refinance a mortgage to pay off debt or to use a line
of credit to pay off high interest credit cards, but it is dangerous to
endlessly put expenses on credit without actually paying them off. The best way
to manage these types of expenses is to save for them in advance. This will not
only save you money, but it will give you peace of mind.
7.
Unforeseen Expenses
What will you do if your car needs
some major repairs? Do you have P500 to P3,000 on hand? What if your house
needs some repairs, or it is discovered that you are living in a building that
leaks? You can’t always count on the bank to lend you money for all of these
things. It is much better to anticipate a worst case scenario and have some
money saved.
8.
Emergencies
As much as we hope that emergencies
won’t happen, we all know that they do. A family member can develop a health
issue, you might need to make an emergency trip, you may have a car accident or
breakdown, severe weather could flood your basement or crack your pipes, or you
may have to fly to a loved one’s funeral. Any of these emergencies can be
expensive, and we all know that we will likely encounter some sort of emergency
from time to time. So why not be prepared rather than potentially become
another victim of an emergency.
9.
You Could Lose Your Job or Get Hurt
In good times, everyone thinks that
their job is secure, but in bad times, many begin to realize that bad things
can happen to anyone. You could suddenly lose your job, your business
could dry up, you might get injured—either physically or psychologically or
become too sick to work. Any of these things can happen to you. Employment
Insurance (EI) doesn’t kick in until you have been unemployed for 6 weeks. Do
you have enough savings to tie you over or will you be living on credit? Living
on credit during a time like this can quickly make a bad situation worse.
Minimum payments become higher and higher until they are unaffordable and
credit limits no longer budge. Then when you finally do get some income, what
used to be enough doesn't get you by because you have all these new debt
payments to make each month. So now you actually need more income than before
because you'll need to pay down these debts and eventually work to get them
paid off.
There are huge emotional, psychological
and physical consequences to always living stressfully, from hand to mouth, . People
who don’t plan for their future seem to run from “crisis” to “crisis.”
There is a little known truth that
happiness can come from being organized. Being organized isn’t going to make
you happy all by itself, but it can sure help. There’s so much in your future
that you don’t have control over, so putting aside some money to spend when you
need it is actually organizing and taking control of your future and
financial affairs. You have nothing to lose by saving - and only a happier
future to gain.

He saved us and called us to a holy life… – 2 Timothy 1:9
It’s scary sometimes. When I’m up there preaching on stage, my
listeners gobble up my every word. Sometimes, one or two people come up
to me, touch my arm reverently and make the sign of the Cross. I’m not
kidding.
In the past 2,000 years, there have been thousands of sincere cuckoos
who’ve claimed some fancy title for themselves: “I’m God’s Apostle!” or
“I’m God’s Prophet!” Or the big one, “I’m God Himself!”
Can I share to you my own official title? I’m Bo Sanchez, “God’s
Big Hypocrite.” I’m a hypocrite because I wear masks. I pretend to be
what I’m not so that you’ll like me. I believe every human being, to
some degree, is a hypocrite and wears masks.
In my past talks and books, I shared about my porn addiction and how
God healed me through those dark stages of my life. It’s fantastic
telling people about my weaknesses and temptations. Because when I show
you my wounds — and God dwelling in those wounds — you get healed.
Bottom line, I’m not better than you are. I need you and you need me — to be healed and to be holy.

10 Surprising Health Benefits of Sex
1. Helps Keep Your Immune System Humming
“Sexually active people take fewer sick days,” says Yvonne K.
Fulbright, PhD a sexual
health expert.
People who have sex have higher levels of what defends your body
against germs, viruses, and other intruders. Researchers at Wilkes University
in Pennsylvania found that college students who had sex once or twice a week
had higher levels of the a certain antibody compared to students who had sex
less often.
You should still do all the other things that make your immune
system happy, such as:
2. Boosts Your Libido
Longing for a more lively sex life? “Having sex will make sex
better and will improve your libido,”
says Lauren Streicher, MD. She is an assistant clinical professor of obstetrics
and gynecology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in
Chicago.
For women, having sex ups vaginal lubrication, blood
flow, and elasticity, she says, all of which make sex feel better and help you
crave more of it.
3. Improves Women's Bladder Control
A strong pelvic floor is important for avoiding incontinence,
something that will affect about 30% of women at some point in their lives.
Good sex is like a workout
for your pelvic floor muscles. When you have an orgasm, it causes contractions
in those muscles, which strengthens them.
4. Lowers Your Blood Pressure
Research suggests a link between sex and lower blood
pressure, says Joseph J. Pinzone, MD. He is CEO and medical director
of Amai Wellness.
“There have been many studies,” he says. “One landmark study
found that sexual intercourse specifically (not masturbation)
lowered systolic blood pressure.” That's the first number on your blood
pressure test.
5. Counts as Exercise
“Sex is a really great form of exercise,”
Pinzone says. It won’t replace the treadmill, but it counts for something.
Sex uses about five calories per minute, four more calories than
watching TV. It gives you a one-two punch: It bumps up your heart rate and
uses various muscles.
So get busy! You may even want to clear your schedule to make
time for it on a regular basis. “Like with exercise, consistency helps maximize
the benefits,” Pinzone says.
6. Lowers Heart Attack Risk
A good sex life is good for your heart. Besides being
a great way to raise your heart rate, sex helps keep your estrogen
and testosterone
levels in balance.
“When either one of those is low you begin to get lots of problems, like osteoporosis and even heart disease,”
Pinzone says.
Having sex more often may help. During one study, men who had sex
at least twice a week were half as likely to die of heart
disease as men who had sex rarely.
7. Lessens Pain
Before you reach for an aspirin,
try for an orgasm.
“Orgasm can block pain,” says Barry R. Komisaruk, PhD, a
distinguished service professor at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.
It releases a hormone that helps raise your pain threshold.
Stimulation without orgasm can also do the trick. “We’ve found
that vaginal stimulation can block chronic back and leg
pain, and many women have told us that genital self-stimulation can reduce
menstrual cramps,
arthritic pain, and in some cases even headache,”
Komisaruk says.
8. May Make Prostate Cancer Less Likely
Going for the gusto may help ward off prostate cancer.
Men who ejaculated frequently (at least 21 times a month) were
less likely to get prostate
cancer during one study, which was published in the Journal of the
American Medical Association.
You don’t need a partner to reap this benefit: Sexual
intercourse, nocturnal emission, and masturbation were all part of the
equation.
It's not clear that sex was the only reason that mattered in that
study. Lots of factors affect cancer
risk. But more sex won’t hurt.
9. Improves Sleep
You may nod off more quickly after sex, and for good reason.
“After orgasm, the hormone prolactin is
released, which is responsible for the feelings of relaxation and
sleepiness" after sex, says Sheenie Ambardar, MD. She is a psychiatrist
in West Hollywood, Calif.
10. Eases Stress
Being close to your partner can soothe stress and anxiety.
Ambardar says touching and hugging can release your body's natural “feel-good
hormone.” Sexual arousal releases a brain chemical that
revs up your brain’s
pleasure and reward system.
Sex and intimacy
can boost your self-esteem and happiness, too, Ambardar says. It’s not only a
prescription for a healthy life, but a happy one.

TO BECOME A
BEGGAR
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. – Matthew 5:3
When I was going through a tough time in college, I lost all my
friends. It wasn’t because they were fair-weather friends, but because I
chose to keep things to myself rather than burden them with my
problems.
At a recent youth encounter with the Pope at the University of Sto.
Tomas, Rikki Macolor recounted how their engineering project provided
light and gave hope to the Yolanda victims. The young inventor is a
model of selflessness, and yet Pope Francis had this to say, “You still
lack one thing.”
The Holy Father advised that everyone has to learn how to become a
beggar, to be evangelized by those we give help to. He said even the
poor, the sick and the orphans have much to teach us. It takes
incredible humility to learn to accept love and to acknowledge that we
are not self-sufficient.
“Do you know you, too, are poor? Do you know your own poverty and need to receive?” asked Pope Francis.
I could have translated it to my old self: “Do you know that to
unburden your friends, you have to allow them to help you? In order to
give, first allow yourself to receive.”
TIPS on how to defend you self from holduper
Give all the money you have, give your cellphone and run for your life. Life is the most precious thing in the world. So save your life.
ANOINTED AND CHOSEN
